Communication

Objectives:


Upon completion of this module, dialysis facility personnel will be able to:
  • define paternalistic care (Patient Whisperer approach)
  • define punitive care (Cowboy approach)
  • apply the WHISPERER approach in communication skills-building within the dialysis facility
  • identify the core elements of proper professionalism
  • demonstrate the core elements of proper professional behavior within the dialysis facility
  • identify best practices to prevent safety errors
  • engage patients and families to enhance their culture of safety


Activities Required for Diamond Status/Measures: 


In order to receive Diamond Status, your facility must meet the measures listed below: 
  • 100% of staff complete the Communication in-service training module
  • 100% of staff complete the Professionalism in-service training module
  • Encourage and invite 100% of patients to participate in care plan meetings
  • Summarize results from the AHRQ Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems In-Center Hemodialysis Survey (CAHPS) in QAPI
  • Complete online Reporting Form
