Core Elements of Antibiotic Stewardship

Objectives: 


Upon completion of this module, dialysis facility personnel will be able to:
  • define antibiotic stewardship
  • apply the CDC’s core elements of antibiotic stewardship within the dialysis facility
  • identify best practices to prevent safety errors
  • engage patients and families to enhance their culture of safety ‚Äč


Activities Required for Diamond Status/Measures: 


In order to receive Diamond Status, your facility must meet the measures listed below: 
  • 100% of staff complete the in-service training module (PowerPoint Presentation) on the core elements of Antibiotic Stewardship
  • Have 100% of patient care staff identify at least 4 of the 7 core elements of antibiotic stewardship and provide examples of each element
  • Facility Medical Director or his/her designee present an in-service on multi-drug resistant organisms and antibiotic therapy
  • Obtain an antibiogram for your specific dialysis location and post it in a central point
  • Complete online Reporting Form
